OWA and Firefox

Problem:  Ever since we moved to Outlook Web Access (OWA), I have had some complaints from users saying that it basically sucks in Firefox.    Since FireFox doesn’t support the ActiveX components of OWA, you have to login in basic mode which pretty much takes away all the cool features of OWA.  The only thing that I could recommend to them was to use IE when they checked their mail.  Until now.

Solution:  Found a Firefox add-on that emulates IE within Firefox.  IT’s called IETabs and it works great.  I was able to login to OWA under premium mode and had no problems whatsoever.  What’s nice is that you can toggle back and forth or open a tab in IE mode but the other tabs are Firefox.  IETabs works with version 3 or Firefox and I only used this on OWA 2003 not the new OWA for Exchange 2007.  If you have used this add-on for OWA 2007, please let me know your thoughts and if it works to your satisfaction.

  1. Take a look at Messageware. They have OWA add-ons that make the OWA on non-IE browsers and Macs look a lot like Outlook Desktop.

  2. Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll definitely check it out. The more and more we use OWA, products like these would be very helpful.
