Uninstall Carbonite on a Mac

Date November 10, 2009

Problem: After my Carbonite for Mac trial period ended, I could not uninstall the program.   Looked at a few blogs and forums that said that I needed to contact support to manually install.  Seemed like a lot of work for a pretty small program

Solution: Logged into the Carbonite web site, downloaded to program and re-installed.  Doing that basically gave me another free trial.  There, within the Carbonite preferences pane, I changed the backup status to “Disabled.”  Once I did that I had an uninstall option.  Hopefully this will work for all of you as well.
11.18.09:  Update – I also found that there were two files in the Library/launchAgents directory on my hard drive that needed to be deleted:
 - com.carbonite.launchd.carbonitestatus.plist and com.carbonite.launchdcarbonitealerts.plist

    Hey there,

Actually I had the same problem and contacted customer support at Carbonite. They sent me detailed instructions which did NOT involve having to re-install to uninstall.

    Here they are:
Please follow the steps below to manually remove the Carbonite program files:

    1. Restart your Computer.
    2. Control click on Finder on the dock and select Go to Folder.
    3. Type /Library/Application Support/ into the window that appears.
    4. Move the Carbonite folder to the Trash.
    5. Control-click on the Application Support folder in the header bar and click the Library folder.
    6. Go to the Contextual Menu Items folder and move CarboniteCMM.bundle to the trash.
    7. Go back to the /Library folder and go into the LaunchAgents folder.
    8. Delete com.carbonite.launchd.carbonitealerts.plist and com.carbonite.launchd.carbonitestatus.plist.
    9. Go back to the /Library folder, and to into LaunchDaemons.
    10. Move com.carbonite.launchd.carbonitedaemon.plist to the trash.
    11. Go back to the /Library folder, and to into PreferencePanes.
    12. Move Carbonite.prefPane to the Trash.
    13. Restart your computer again.
    14. Empty your trash.

    Hope it helps people.

    Thanks
    RN~
