Windows could not search for new updates error: Server 2008 R2

Problem: When trying to run Microsoft Windows updates on my Windows Server 2008 machine, I would get the following error: “ Windows could not search for new updates” No matter what I tried, it would not connect to Windows update…. I was able to update in the past but it all of a sudden started to fail…
Solution: My time zone was wrong. Got switched to Pacific instead of Mountain… once I changed it back, I was able to connect and update.
